Apricot Morning (2025, Kakareka, N.)
Herbaceous hybrid. Seedling number CBSB/17-1. Parentage: ‘Carnation Bouquet’ x ‘Sunny Boy’. First bloomed 2022, first propagated 2022. Previously distributed under the name “Apricot Morning”. Early blooming DOUBLE flowers are salmon-pink overlaid by apricot, 14 cm (5.5”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are typically 4.5-5 cm (1.75-2”) in width. Fragrant. No carpels. Stamens are between 1.25-2 cm (0.5-0.75”) in length, with uniformly light-yellow filaments. Produces pollen; no seed fertility. Leaflets are broad-pointed, and green in color. Foliage at the time of emergence is dark red. Plants reach 74 cm (30”) at maturity. Growth habit is upright, though the plant does benefit from mechanical support due to very heavy flowers. Some buds are so tightly packed with petalage that upon opening, flowers give the appearance of a fully double flower inside of another double flower. Named for the beauty of the early morning when this cultivar first bloomed, and reflected all the colors of that morning in its blossom.
