Parentage: from unspecified Roger Anderson seedlings. First bloomed 2002, first propagated 2006. DOUBLE. Red double with rounded guard petals, flower 8 inches (20 cm) in size, one per stem. Some blooms may have a few inner petals colored ivory, with red veins. No fragrance. Pollen bearing stamens and seeds. Midseason bloom. Stems to 32 inches (81 cm), narrow upright self-supporting growth habit. Named for Stephen E. Ambrose (1936-2002), historian and author whose books did much to popularize American history and make it available to the ordinary citizen. Long time personal and family friend of Roger Anderson and was Roger’s Boy Scout leader those many years ago.
