Seedling 523/80. Parentage: P. officinalis var. banatica x P. lactiflora ‘President Taft’. Seeds sown in 1974, from which ‘Ofelia’ was selected as a seedling in 1980. Entered into the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2001 (Certificate #1294). SEMI-DOUBLE TO DOUBLE flower form. Flowers with a diameter of 16 cm (6 inches), 1 per stem. Deep lilac-pink purple petals (RHS 71-B). Rounded guard petals with a width of 3-5 cm. The center petals are also wide. Average of 3 ivory-colored, sparsely hairy carpels topped with dark-pink stigmas. Pollen bearing stamens, filaments dark pink at the base, less than 1/2-inch. No seeds. Foliage purplish-red on emergence, rich green when mature, leaflets broad pointed. Average height at maturity 70 cm. (28 inches). Early midseason flowering, blooming with ‘Ballerina’.
