Austria
Short biography:
2 Children, Master gardener, peony collector
More information:
What was your starting material for your hybridizing?
It was 1985. I started from my own collection of about 300 varieties from Klose, Feldweber, Gräfin Zeppelin, etc.
What are your goals in hybridizing peonies?
Herbaceous peonies, flower shape, fragrance, beautiful leaves, stability, cut flowers..
How large is your hybridizing program?
I make only crosses by insects, all chance seedlings, ca. 60 own new varieties, in 25 years some 10,000 seedlings
Do you have any plants in the market?
Around 60 own varieties
Can you describe a few of your plants that you consider the best or most beautiful and which are available now?

Elsa von Brabant (Miely, 2009)
Elsa von Brabant (Miely, 2009). Double bloom, salmon-pink color, with a very delicate, lovely fragrance! It’s not very sturdy, but with blooms like these, that’s a small price to pay. Mid-season flowering. Hybrid, 90 cm tall, bloom diameter 23 cm!
Within your current seedlings, what are the most promising ones?
Are you in contact or working together with other peony hybridizers?
I am in contact with Tetzlaff and Ruud Warmerdam
Do you have unregistered plants that are not good enough to introduce but have something ‘special’?
We also have seedlings for sale with working numbers only, they are good but not good enough to get a name….
Do you know the American Peony Society (APS)? Are some of your plants registered with them? Do you have any suggestions?
I have registered plants there. Everything is ok with the APS. Here in Austria the peony is very popular as in other contries…
Final question. Any remarks or suggestions you may have…
All the best!
