We garden near Cambridge, GB. Our soil is very alkaline: Rich deep loam , over marl over chalk . Paeonies of all sorts love it and grow really well.

Paeonia sterniana. Seedling.
Two survived at my place. One from seeds (see picture) and one seedling.
The seedlings were too dry and the others didn’t grow at all.
I learned that sterniana hates to grow in a greenhouse. It needs the outdoors humidity.

Placed outdoors it’s trouble free and recovered from looking poor. (until yet
