From these last series, they've received a long warm period and will now go into cold storage. Here the two…
I just received some images of Matias Krieger’s seedlings and they were added to the page about him and his work. Have a look to see some nice ones for the future… Here’s already one of which I’m just a little bit jealous 😉
Hi, this spring i starter breeding peonies, i made a bunch of crosses between lactifloras and i’ve noticed that a few pods have already opened up in june, showing the yellow seeds. I read that viable seeds should be black. Does this mean that the cross was unsuccessful? This happened only with lactifloras, not hybrids.
1 CommentSome days ago we mowed down a plot of peonies which was heavily infected with (strawberry)leaf nematodes (aphelenchoides fragariae). It’s one of only a few problems with peonies that regularly occur here, the other being botrytis and, less common, phytophthora. The plants will no doubt experience a setback, but it is hoped the pest can be…Read More
I am posting an image of Andreas Maschke (B3) flowering in my garden. Very nice plant, herbaceous in appearance, very similar to its pollen parent. The flowers have pollen and carpels.
I have used its pollen on so called fertile itohs to increase the tree peony characters and obtain fertile backcrosses. I tried it also on herbaceous hybrids like…Read More3 Comments@roberto Have you obtained any seedlings from the cross Itohs x B3?
I have tried B3 pollen on several itohs such as Watermelon Wine, Belle Tolousaine, Sonoma Rosy Future, Gordon Simonsen but no seeds yet. This year I have tried also the same pollen on Golden Experience. Results if any will be visible in a couple of months. I do not want to cross these RIBC2 with herbaceous hybrids because it increases the…Read More

Today the peony world has lost a great man; Don Hollingsworth passed away at a blessed age. He was the founder and owner of Hollingsworth nursery before it was sold. A great hybridizer of peonies and prolific contributor to many peony discussions, you can find many very informative articles within the APS Bulletins or the Paeonia newsletters. If…Read More

The seed pods have opened up too early, but the seeds themselves are good. The yellow ones will turn brown. Leave them as they are, at the beginning of July they’ll probably be ready to harvest. If you harvest them now, they’ll simply rot. Hybrids at this time will be red, those will turn black. You need brown or black seeds, not yellow or red ones.
