German Medusa (Giessler, 2018). A somewhat different intersectional hybrid peony. Different because the mother is the tree peony and not the lactiflora variety, which is unlike nearly all others. And also because the tree peony is no lutea hybrid peony but rather Paeonia delavayi, the red form, resulting in a dark red intersectional with different flower shapes from single to semi-doubles. So no P. suffruticosa in her genes and no immediate yellow (although it may be present as some recessive genes in that P. delavayi plant of course). Despite the fact that the mother is thus the tree peony the foliage looks more herbaceous than the average intersectional, which I really wouldn’t have expected. Another remarkable thing are the sidebuds, which can be remarkably numerous and arise from deep down on the main stems, attaining quite some length and with their own leaflets resembling smaller main stems themselves. The anthers do contain some small amounts of pollen, but as to fertility that’s all I know for now. It seems to propagate rapidly.
