Next to our daily work we have two things we’d like to do soon on this site. First one is to compile a new list of growers of species plants and compare those to the ones that have been requested. Then we can see what is possible or not. One question to ask there is whether it would be wise to send directly from the supplier to the receiver or whether it would be more efficient to have a ‘middle-man’ that collects and distributes them. Perhaps it will depend on the quantities available. The other thing I’d like to do is write another article, this time on species peonies of the Caucasus and Iran. There’s the well-known article from Hong on this but I feel it has its’ shortcomings. That is especially so in the wittmanniana group when you compare it to other (scientific) articles which have different conclusions. The best thing would be to visit all the places where they grow during bloom time, but alas, that will never be possible for me (perhaps after retirement, but that’s a long way off). Something which the authors of all those articles didn’t have is the availability of social media. While those are designed to keep you scrolling mindlessly for hours and hours, they do offer some insights from time to time, which in this case is some images from locals… We’ll see if we can distill something worthwhile from it all. Here’s my own P. wittmanniana in different stages (images from several years):
