  • Some days ago we mowed down a plot of peonies which was heavily infected with (strawberry)leaf nematodes (aphelenchoides fragariae). It’s one of only a few problems with peonies that regularly occur here, the other being botrytis and, less common, phytophthora. The plants will no doubt experience a setback, but it is hoped the pest can be…Read More

    • Most intersectional don’t have leafnematodes.
Treepeonies don’t seem to suffer from leafnematodes as well.
I always wondered why nobody did any research on this feature.

  • I just received some images of Matias Krieger’s seedlings and they were added to the page about him and his work. Have a look to see some nice ones for the future… Here’s already one of which I’m just a little bit jealous 😉

  • I am posting an image of Andreas Maschke (B3) flowering in my garden. Very nice plant, herbaceous in appearance, very similar to its pollen parent. The flowers have pollen and carpels.
I have used its pollen on so called fertile itohs to increase the tree peony characters and obtain fertile backcrosses. I tried it also on herbaceous hybrids like…Read More

    • @roberto Have you obtained any seedlings from the cross Itohs x B3?

      • I have tried B3 pollen on several itohs such as Watermelon Wine, Belle Tolousaine, Sonoma Rosy Future, Gordon Simonsen but no seeds yet. This year I have tried also the same pollen on Golden Experience. Results if any will be visible in a couple of months. I do not want to cross these RIBC2 with herbaceous hybrids because it increases the…Read More

    • @roberto I forgot to answer your question about my results hybridizing with this, sorry. Now that I see this post again I suddenly remember…

Growing seedlings currently from these crosses with B3 (Andreas Maschke):
(Big Jhonny x open) double pink x B3: 9 seedlings
      (Old Faithful x Grand Massive)001 x B3: 2 small ones
      (Pink Vanguard x Buoy…Read More

    • Short? At my place it reached upto 100cm. Great plant, seedlings were disappointing. Single flowers with common and ugly colours.

      • Not very tall here, but these are second year plants, so they may still increase in height. The colour is rather common, but for some reason it attracts a huge number of bees (which I like), whilst other blooming peonies around it are neglected by them.

  • Strong Coral (from Old Faithful x Coral Charm).. These are second year plants, they’ll increase a lot over time. Fades beautifully I think. You can see the Paeonia peregrina background still in the lobes on the leaflets.
