First year bloomed 2011; first propagated 2013. Parentage unknown. Early/Midseason bloom period. Flower form SINGLE. Flowers present outwards, 1 per stem. Deep red petals with a silky gloss. Dark red flares extending 25–33% from petal base, blurred edge. Petals rounded, margins delicately frilled and notched. Flower size 6–7 inches (15–18 cm). Carpels 5 on average, pale yellow green, and moderately hairy. Stigmas with normal morphology, moderate purplish red. Pollen bearing stamens, filaments are dark red at the base, fading lighter purplish red nearer the tip. Sheath completely encloses carpels, same color as filaments. Fragrance. Plant height 55 inches (138 cm) with narrow upright growth habit. Named for the flower’s likeness to a pool infused with black ink.
