]]> 0 fdf1c6c55ee7d7a81ebd4f073802ce0b I am posting an image of Andreas Maschke (B3) flowering in my garden. Very nice plant, herbaceous in appearance, very similar to its pollen parent. The flowers have pollen and carpels. I have used its pollen on so called fertile itohs to increase the tree peony characters and obtain fertile backcrosses. I tried it also on herbaceous hybrids like Blushing Princess and Old Faithful and got a few seeds last year. I have pollinated B3 with other similar peonies like B2 and B1 but results are still to come. I have a couple of seedlings from Andreas Maschke open pollinated still very small. He was the founder and owner of Hollingsworth nursery before it was sold. A great hybridizer of peonies and prolific contributor to many peony discussions, you can find many very informative articles within the APS Bulletins or the Paeonia newsletters. If the yahoo groups hadn't been removed, you'd find innumerable ones there as well. No doubt an extensive obituary will appear in a forthcoming APS Bulletin. On a personal note: Don was the person who has introduced me to the peony hybidizing world a long time ago, has assisted me on my first steps there and was always one of the most friendly and helpful people I have known. I'm very sure many other hybridizers and peony growers will have that same experience. I'm grateful to have known him.
